The first of these is Round
Worms (AKA nematodes). These little fella’s are tapers at
both ends, narrow and smooth. They are extremely hard to
spot, if not impossible with the naked eye. Your local vet
would need to use a microscope to find them in the stool.
This type of worm also has some other rather
nice names such as hook-worms, whip-worms and lungworms.
The second type of worms
are called Tap Worms (AKA cestodes). These horrible little
things actually have a "head" and are segmented.
These are generally caught by eating fleas
or rodents. Your dog would do well to avoid things like
mice, squirrels, rats for lunch.
Lastly, Flat Worms (AKA
flukes or trematodes). As the name suggests they are flat
in appearance. These worms will attach themselves to your
dog's intestines, liver or lungs.
Fact: Ring worms have not
been included in the list above because they are not worms
at all, the infected area looks like a worm, but it is not.
